beach boy

Despite having lived in Texas for 25 years, I've only been to the Texas coast a handful of times. I'm not a world traveler by any means, but I guess I'm a bit spoiled by some of the beautiful beaches I've visited over the years, and the Texas coast (maybe with the exception of South Padre Island) isn't exactly a tropical paradise. But we really wanted to introduce Gage to the beach this summer, and with economic times being what they are, a trip to Port Aransas was about as tropical as we were going to get. So we packed up the car and headed south to spend the weekend with our friends James and Amy and their 5 year old daughter Gracie at Amy's brother's house in Port Aransas. I guess we got lucky...the beach was as clean as I've ever seen it, and Gage absolutely loved playing in the waves and sand.

We also took a day trip to Corpus Christi to visit the Texas State Aquarium and the USS Lexington museum.

In the end, good friends, good food, and good times made it a wonderful vacation, tropical paradise or not! And when Gage said to me on the last night, "Mommy, thank you for bringing me on this nice vacation"...well, it doesn't get much closer to paradise than that.
