Call me crazy, but tear jerkers are my absolute favorite kind of movies. The more tears I shed, the better I like the movie. I'm not sure what it is...maybe it's the intensity of the emotion...or maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment. In any event, I am inspired to share with you my All Time Top 5 Tear Jerker list:

1. Legends of the Fall
My all time favorite tear jerker and all around favorite movie. It didn't hurt that Brad Pitt was at his most incredibly gorgeous in this one.
Ultimate Tear Jerker Scene:
This movie is full of them, but the one that always sends me over the edge is when Susannah and Alfred run into Tristan and Isabelle Two at the fair and Susannah sees Tristan's children for the first time, including the son named for her dead fiance.

2. The English Patient
Unrequited love doesn't get much better than this.
Ultimate Tear Jerker Scene:
When Count Almasy finally makes it back to the cave and carries Katharine out into the desert wind.

3. The Bridges of Madison County

I know their infidelity is wrong, but I can't help wishing they would end up together.
Ultimate Tear Jerker Scene:
Francesca and Richard are in town buying groceries and they encounter Robert's truck at a stop light; he waits, while Richard honks and Francesca fights with the decision to stay or go.

4. The Notebook

Another boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, boy and girl are separated...are we sensing a theme here?
Ultimate Tear Jerker Scene:
I can't say there's one that stands out above the others...I pretty much cry through the whole movie.

5. Inventing the Abbots
Sibling rivalry, family drama, and social commentary to go with the love story.
Ultimate Tear Jerker Scene:
When Doug finds out that Pamela slept with Jacey.
Add these to your Netflix orders and stock up on some tissues!

Have you seen P.S. I Love You? I cry every time. Schindler's List? It's not a romantic movie but I soaked 4 tissues. I definitely agree with your top 5 though.
i knew the notebook HAD to be on that list! and yes, i agree about ps i love you. i pretty much cried the entire 2 hours of that movie!
It's the catharsis. I think my all-time favorite tear-jerker, that reduces me to a blubbering idiot every single time I watch it, is Gone with the Wind. But I'm easy, lots of movies make me cry. As a teen, I watched Running on Empty over and over again, not because it's a great movie (though not bad) but because I just needed the release that came when I sobbed at the end. (Well, that and River Phoenix!)
