africa hot

I don't remember anything else about the movie, but I've always loved the part in Biloxi Blues when Eugene (Matthew Broderick) first arrives in Biloxi for basic training and proclaims to anyone who will listen, "Man, it's hot.  No one told me it was going to be this hot.  This is Africa hot."  (Just ask my husband...I use this quote a lot in the summer...)

I had lunch today with a girlfriend of mine who just had her first child, a precious baby boy born on Valentine's Day.  About her first month of motherhood she said, "No one told me it was going to be this hard."  Isn't that the truth??  Sure, you may read all the books, hear stories from your friends, and think you know what to expect.  But the truth is that nothing can really prepare you for motherhood...the overwhelming love, tenderness, pride, anxiety, self doubt, exhaustion, and guilt that is motherhood...you just have to experience it for yourself.

Man, it's hard.  No one told me it was going to be this hard.  This is motherhood hard.
